On Wednesday, August 16, members of the Shawnee Mission North Opportunity Fund met with Principal Tappan and Assistant Principal Wenciker to renew ties and continue helping the SMN community.
SMNOF President Jarret Bertoncin presented a check for $8,760 made possible by donations from alumni and other SMNOF supporters. The money will be used to assist any students with fees related to classes, sports, extracurricular activities, field trips, or other necessities.
“You don’t want a student to be hindered by a dollar amount.” Assistant Principal Brock Wenciker said. “We are very appreciative (of this donation) and we will put it to good use.”
SMNOF members will continue their partnership with the North community to raise money for students, collect items for Shawnee Mission North’s “One-Stop Shop”, and recruit more volunteers.
“What we’re pushing on our side board-wise is that it’s not about us,” said Jarrett Bertoncin, SMNOF president. “It’s about the students. The hope is that there won’t be more students in need.”
